Blog rankings

An upcoming paper in the Eastern Economic Journal provides a methodology for ranking blogs. I don't think the site here allows for uploads of files, just links, so feel free to shoot me an email and I'll send the paper out. For those interested, David Skarbek is the 63rd rated blogger, Emily Schaeffer is the 71st, Claudia Williamson is the 73rd, and a Matthew E. Ryan from George Mason University as 76th. (Hey, the name and affiliation are wrong, but I'll take it where I can get it.) The blog as a whole comes in at 38th.

Here's the abstract:

Blogometrics

by

Franklin G. Mixon, Jr. and Kamal P. Upadhyaya

This study gathers information on a wide array of economics bloggers and blogs in order to develop a ranking of economics bloggers that is based on citations to their academic research. This ranking is used in an iterative process that then presents a ranking of economics blogs that is based on the ranking of economics bloggers, and finally a ranking of economics departments that is based on the ranking of economics blogs. The ranking of blogs included in this study is positively correlated with an external ranking based on their productivity (popularity), while the department ranking presented here comports quite well with department rankings in CoupĂ© (2003) and Roessler (2004) that are developed with more traditional measures, such as the impact of the scholarship of an economics department’s faculty.
