Outside of consistently good Mexican food, there's nothing I miss more in the culinary realm by living in the eastern portion of the country than In-N-Out. Nothing compares. Five Guys is passable but a weak substitute.

I feel your pain, Five Guys is a passable but weak substitute for Culvers (a midwestern burger chain) In college we got an invading Five Guys that was closer to campus, I still drove out to Culvers!
Matt, I'm sure you'll consider this heresy, but I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of In-N-Out.
Being a California native, I have, of course, dined there many times on both the regular and secret menus. It is definitely better than most (all?) other fast food burgers, but it doesn't compare to any burger from a decent, traditional restaurant, such as McCormick & Schmicks, Gordon Biersch, or Flames.
In-N-Out might be a great Value, but if we are talking about just quality and taste of burger, I can't get too excited about it.
ohhh love that food...
but the older i get, the more i cook at home and the more i realize there's nothing more delicious than the stuff you cooked yourself. and nothing healthier :)
