CNN gives an update on the Large Hadron Collider. I initially posted about the machine here and offered previous updates here and here. The article notes that the LHC "will start receiving current again in July, and will circulate this year's first proton beam by the end of September..." Which means, given the dates on my previous posts...yes, it was years, not months. And September 2009 is an optimistic estimate-- I'd say odds are even on tests running before the end of the year.
I also doubt that the magnets are cooled to "a couple degrees below absolute zero."
